Documenting performing arts is essential as it preserves the ephemeral nature of live performances, capturing choreography, staging, and artistic expression that would otherwise vanish once the moment passes.
It serves as a vital tool for knowledge transmission, enabling future generations to study, adapt, and be inspired by past works. Beyond preservation, documentation allows for critical reflection, scholarly research, and creative reinterpretation, offering artists a means to evolve their practice.
It also fosters accessibility, allowing wider audiences to engage with performances regardless of time, location, or physical ability. Importantly, documenting performance sustains cultural memory and identity, safeguarding intangible heritage and empowering communities to reclaim their narratives. In a rapidly changing world, it becomes a way to honor presence, expand interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure that the power of embodied storytelling continues to resonate across time and space.
Over the years, I have cultivated valuable and lasting artistic collaborations with choreographers, companies, artists, and institutions, working closely on performance documentation, creating dance films, and developing comprehensive documentation processes.
